For decades the IVth Legion was the mainstay of the Imperial forces, neither the most prestigious nor most impressive, but an absolutely unrelenting force of compliance that enacted the will of the Emperor. These marines saw themselves as soldiers before all else, and instead of brazen assaults or vainglorious defenses they perfected a highly regimented, extremely reliable form of war. When they were reunited with their Primarch this dogged professionalism was honed into a grim brutality, at the cost of a decimation of 1/10 of their Legion. Though they threw their lot in with the Warmaster, the IVth did not see themselves as servants of Chaos; they were not heretics and monsters like many of their brothers. Instead they fought in the same implacable way they always had, all the way to the Siege of Terra that Perturabo commanded until close to the very end. During the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy eras of the late 30th and early 31st Millennia, Scorpius Bolts were individually hand-crafted by the Techmarines of a Space Marine Legion's armoury.

Asgal Pattern Mark VI Heavy Bolter - A Heavy Bolter pattern only utilised by the Space Wolves Chapter. Executioner rounds are sophisticated self-guiding missiles slaved to a miniaturised cogitator that can seek their target behind cover, even changing direction mid-flight with tiny bursts of ballistic propellant.

As we established earlier, the closest projectile in size and general shape to a bolter round is the 20mm cannon round, which is approximately 75mm in length. Based on the dimensions of a 19mm projectile that is also 75mm in length, the approximate volume of a bolter round is 16.5 cm3. Astartes Mark IVa Heavy Bolter - Based on the original design, this is a commonly used Heavy Bolter variant utilised by the Adeptus Astartes. Inferno Bolts are designed to immolate their targets and destroy them with superheated chemical fire. The dense core of the standard bolt is replaced with an oxy-phosphorous gel, derived from promethium. As their name suggests, Vengeance Rounds were developed for use against the Heretic Astartes of the Traitor Legions. Vengeance Rounds employ unstable flux core technology that makes them hazardous to use, but incredibly effective against heavily armoured targets, whether Chaos Space Marines or xenos alike.

The result is a tier list, basically. I found some weapons were much better than I first assumed, and also confirmed in my own mind that there's definetly quite a big range of power levels amongst the guns. The variants of a particular class sometimes behave very differently, so the impression of an entire class can be colored by trying a weaker variant first. Now, there's no need to perfectly balance every weapon, especially in a PvE game, but when there's too much of a power gap you do start to get issues with variety in the higher difficulties.Colmunus and Graia IAG should be in C Tier. The Agripinaa should in B Tier (basically swapping them around). People commented on this and after more testing I think they were right. Agripinaa does hold up a lot better. For limitations, you (again) can’t have any units in Deep Strike Assault, Subterranean Assault or Flanking Assault, must take an excellent Siege Breaker (possibly granting your Arquitors and Rapier carriers phosphex barrage shells, perhaps?), and, in one of the least restrictive rules around, you must take more squadrons of Arquitors, Basilisks or Medusa than you have Cavalry units. Sure, it’s worded a little oddly and probably means you need one of these types to be more than all Cavalry combined, but… who cares? You’re running an Nuln artillery train here, get those horses outta here!

Solar Pattern Heavy Bolter - Another commonly used Heavy Bolter variant utilised by the forces of the Imperial Guard.Drum Magazine - Drum magazines are a relatively rare sight in the 41st Millennium. This is due to their unreliability; drum magazines have an unfortunate tendency to jam. However, drums can carry 40, 60 or even 100 bolts, negating the need to reload as often. Despite the frequent jamming, they still brook some favour with local Hive Gangs or planetary defence militia. They are also frequently seen on Storm Bolters or in brutal assaults, where running empty in a firefight can mean certain death.
